Adding Watering Points and Landmarks in the eShepherd Mobile App

Adding Watering Points and Landmarks in the eSheperd Mobile App

Step 1 — Open the Home Screen and Select the “+” Button

  1. Open the eShepherd Mobile App on your device.
  2. Once you are on the home screen (the main map view), look at the bottom toolbar.
  3. Tap the “+” (Add) button.
    • This button opens a menu of available map actions such as adding watering points, landmarks, notes, or other markers.

Step 2 — Choose “Add WP” (Add Watering Point)

  1. After tapping the “+” button, a small action menu will appear.
  2. Select the option labeled “Add WP” (short for Add Watering Point).
  • This tells the app that you want to insert a watering point marker rather than a landmark or task.

Step 3 — Choose Your Placement Method

You will now be asked to choose how the watering point should be placed on the map.

Option A — “Use My Current Location” (Recommended)

  • Select “Use My Current Location” if you are physically standing at the watering point.
  • The app uses your phone’s GPS to drop the pin directly where you are.

Best for:

  • Adding real-world watering points while on foot in the field.
  • Ensuring precise placement with minimal adjustment.

Option B — “Use Current View” (Manual Placement)

  • Select this option if you are not on-site, or if you want to manually drag the marker to the correct spot.
  • This allows accurate placement even if you are planning from home on satellite view.

Tip:

Use pinching gestures to zoom in for high accuracy. Ensure the pin is placed exactly on the trough, pond, tank, or water source.

Step 4 — Confirm the Placement, Name the Point, and Save

  1. After selecting your preferred placement method, the app will show the new watering point marker on the map.
  2. Review the pin location to ensure it is correct.

If needed, drag the pin slightly to refine its placement.

  1. In the naming field, give your watering point a clear name (e.g., North Trough, Pond A, Hilltop Tank).
  2. Tap Save to confirm and add the point permanently to your map.

Tip: Use consistent naming conventions so all users on the property can easily identify resources.

  • You can use this process for adding in landmarks like Gates, Barns, Weigh Stations, Base Stations, or even notify employees/other users of physical fences that may need repaired.
  • To add these landmarks instead of selecting "Add WP", you would select "Add Landmark"
  • From there, you select your placement method.
  • Once you have your landmark pin in the proper place, you can select the colored circle next to the naming field to color code your landmark and select what type of landmark you would like to place.
