Cellular Walk Test Guide
Before you begin testing, please make sure you have your neckband un-hibernated and it is reporting its location on the web app. Look for a green icon on the map and a value in the 'last updated' on the animal menu.
If you have any farm maps, these can be uploaded through the infrastructure menu on the web app, or be created using the drawing tool. This is a useful visual aid for both yourself and the eShepherd team to see how connectivity is in particular grazing areas on-property.
Once testing begins;
- Keep in mind the neckband reports its location every 10 minutes, it is a good idea to be in a spot for at least 15 minutes to make sure that report has occurred.
- You can take your neckband with you wherever you go on-farm, whether driving in a vehicle or walking. If in a vehicle, this may interfere with the signal, so just take the neckband out into the open about 10m/30 feet away to make sure the reported data in that location is as accurate as possible.
- Pay special attention to any areas of poor cellular reception or concern, but make sure you have a good spread of all the intended grazing areas.
- The more you test around the property, the better confidence we can build for connectivity. This can be done over a number of weeks so take it out as much as you can.
Once testing is in process;
- Make sure you take note of where you have been on the property to see where coverage may have been poor, or where you may want to re-test. You know your property best!
- If you go through the animals menu and select the test device; you can select 'tracks' which shows the neckbands activity for up to 7 days. During your testing, if you use that function (every node is a location report), you will be able to see where your testing data is looking a bit scarce or poor and it can be assessed as you go.
- Reach out to the eShepherd team with any questions, or once you believe testing has been sufficient. We keep track of all of the neckbands movements and can work with you to make a final assessment.
