How-to Create and Manage Mobs

You can sort your animals into mobs or herds on the eShepherd platform, just as you do out in the paddock. This is the best way to ensure that all of the animals in a particular mob are within the same virtual paddock.

The video below shows you how to create a mob and make some changes to those mobs.

Mob Creation Process in eShepherd Web App

To create a mob in eShepherd, ensure that animals are already registered in the app with neckbands fitted. Animals without mobs will appear with individual icons, ready for assignment.

Step 1: Create a New Mob

  • Go to the Mobs Menu and click Create New Mob or the + button.
  • Name the mob (e.g., "Angus Cows") and choose a color for easy identification.

Step 2: Assign Animals to the Mob

  • Option 1 - Map Selection: Hold down CTRL and drag a box over animals on the map to select them. Then, click Create to confirm.
  • Option 2 - Animal List Selection: Open the Animals Menu, sort by animals without a mob, select the desired animals, and assign them to the new mob. This approach is helpful if the animals are tagged or ordered.

Additional Mobs and Customization

  • Create an empty mob first, then go to the Animals Menu to assign specific animals to it. For example, create a “Bull” mob and assign individual animals as needed.
  • You can also separate animals from a mob at any time by selecting the animal and using Change Mob to remove it.

Managing Mobs for Virtual Fences

When managing virtual fences, you can assign multiple mobs to the same virtual paddock. For instance, both the “Angus Cows” and “Bull” mobs can share the same paddock without separating animals individually.

Following these steps makes mob creation and virtual paddock management in eShepherd clear and efficient.
