How to scan a Neckband with a hand held reader
The eShepherd Neckband can be associated with an animals EID tag or Visual tag. This can be done using the eShepherd Mobile App on a phone, and then paring the phone to the hand held reader.
(Currently, only the Gallagher HR4 or HR5 handheld reader can be paired with the Mobile App.)
The Neckband has an RFID tag inside its housing. This RFID / EID tag can be scanned using the hand held reader.
Note, some operators have a ‘panel reader’ installed on their crush as part of their weighing system. The Neckband EID could interfere with this operation, as it might read both the animals EID tag, and the Neckband EID tag.
To prevent a ‘double read’ the EID tag inside the Neckband has been ‘shielded’ to make it less sensitive to a panel reader. However this also makes it difficult to read with a hand held reader.
The video below demonstrates the best way to read the EDI tag inside the Neckband using an HR5 wand.
