Managing your virtual paddocks
This article explains how to manage your virtual paddocks (VPs) using the VPs panel in the eShepherd web app. The panel supports search and filtering — use the filter tags such as Physical Paddock, Mob, or Status to quickly find the VPs you need.
In Rotation and In Storage
VPs exist in one of two states:
- In Rotation — the VP is active and available to be assigned to a mob for grazing. These are the paddocks you are currently using or planning to use in the near term.
- In Storage — the VP is set aside and not available for activation. VPs in storage are hidden from the map by default, keeping your active list and map view clean and focused. You can still show them on the map at any time by enabling the Virtual Paddocks - In Storage layer in the layers panel (top-left corner of the map).
Switch between the two views using the In Rotation and In Storage toggle in the top-right corner of the VPs panel.
Moving a VP to Storage
When a paddock won't be used for a season or an extended period, move it to storage to keep your rotation list tidy.
Step 1. In the In Rotation view, use the filter tags to narrow the list. Tap Physical Paddock to filter by paddock name and find the VP you want to move. Tick the checkbox next to the VP to select it — it will be highlighted on the map.

Step 2. With the VP selected, click the Show/Hide icon (the eye icon) in the bottom toolbar. A menu will appear with three options — click Move to 'In Storage'.

Step 3. A confirmation — Virtual Paddock moved to 'In Storage' — will appear. The VP is removed from the In Rotation list and hidden from the map. To see it on the map, enable the Virtual Paddocks - In Storage layer using the layers panel in the top-left corner.

Moving a VP back to Rotation
When the season changes or you're ready to use a paddock again, move it back to rotation.
Step 1. Switch to In Storage view using the toggle in the top-right corner. Use the filter tags to find the VP you want to bring back. Tick the checkbox next to it to select it.

Step 2. Click the Show/Hide icon (the eye icon) in the bottom toolbar. A menu will appear — click Move to 'In Rotation'.

Step 3. A confirmation — Virtual Paddock moved to 'In Rotation' — will appear. The VP will be moved back to your In Rotation list and will reappear on the map.

Showing and hiding VPs on the map
Independent of whether a VP is in rotation or storage, you can control its map visibility at any time. Select the VP by ticking its checkbox, then click the Show/Hide icon (the eye icon) in the bottom toolbar and choose Show or Hide from the menu. This is useful when you want to keep a VP in rotation but temporarily remove it from view to reduce visual clutter.
You can also control map visibility in bulk using the layers panel in the top-left corner of the map, which lets you toggle entire VP categories — such as Virtual Paddocks - In Storage or Virtual Paddocks - Inactive — on or off at once.
Deleting VP
If you need to delete a VP that has not been used, you can select the VP and click the trash-can icon to delete.

Summary
This guide covers how to organise your VPs between In Rotation and In Storage to reflect what you're actively using each season, and how to control map visibility using the Show/Hide eye icon or the layers panel. Keeping your rotation list and map view clean makes it easier to manage grazing across large properties with many paddocks.
