Getting started - eShepherd Web App

Setting you up for Success!🗺️ Draw your farm. Then redraw it - as many times as you like as your farming system grows with eShepherd virtual fencing!

Our eShepherd Web App is where fencing stops being a four-day job with a post-driver or the pain of mending fences and starts being a few taps on a screen.

This guide will teach you the basics, allowing you to get started. Four moves, and you are up and running!

MOVE 1 — PUT YOUR PROPERTY ON THE MAP 📍

Paddocks, water, gates, yards - anything that matters, mark it.

Select the infrastructure menu (three dots ⋮) then click Physical Paddocks, Watering Points or Landmarks.

Upload via KML file. Or add manually - same drill every time: tap '+', mark on map, tap the tick.

Physical Paddocks - trace them corner by corner
Watering Points - drop a pin where the water is and add details
Landmarks - flag gates, yards, hazards, whatever you need to remember

🎯 WHY IT MATTERS: Good infrastructure now means less second-guessing on every virtual paddock design after this. Every virtual fence line must be 30m+ clear of water - thirsty livestock should never get a beep for a drink.

MOVE 2 — DRAW YOUR VIRTUAL PADDOCK

Here's the bit that used to take a trailer full of posts (or a reel of electric fence wire), now simplified to a few clicks.

Step A: Click on the "VPs" menu, then tap "+"

Step B: Name your Virtual Paddock, then click each corner on the map to draw your fence line. Click your starting point again to close the shape, then click the tick to save.

Note: We will show you the total grazing area and advise of any errors (For Example: sharp corners that can confuse animal). Correct any errors shown in the banner.... ie. adjust the point causing the error by extending out OR removing another point)

🎯 WHY IT'S WORTH IT: A well-designed VP is the difference between just replacing physical fences with virtual and a genuine improvement on pasture utilisation - plus clean boundaries mean calmer stock and grass that gets used, not trampled.

Enter name for Mob. (You can change mob color by clicking on the mob icon next to the mob name) Click ‘Confirm’.

MOVE 3 — GET YOUR MOB (HERD) TOGETHER 🐮

Virtual Paddocks are always assigned on the Mob level not by induvial animals. Once you have assigned a neckband to each animal (see the Neckband quick start guide) you can progress to this step.

Step A: Open the 'Mobs' menu and click 'Animals with No Mob'

Step B: Tick the master checkbox (top right shown below) to select all animals (or select animals individually). Click the ‘Change Mob’ icon

Step C: Click ‘Choose Mob’ dropdown. Select ‘+ New Mob’ or assign to existing created mob.

Step D: Enter Mob Name. (You can change the mob color by clicking on the mob icon next to the mob name). Click ‘Confirm’ to save.

MOVE 4 — SWITCH THE VIRTUAL PADDOCK ON 🔛

IMPORTANT: Ensure your mob are within the assigned Virtual Paddock and calmly grazing before switching on.

Step A: Open ‘Mobs’ menu, tick the mob & click the 'Turn On VP’ icon.

STEP B: Click on ‘ASAP’ (these advanced guides cover schedule VP and Schedule Plan options). Choose the Virtual Paddock from the dropdown & click the ‘tick’ icon to confirm. The system will begin communicating with the neckbands to activate the Virtual Paddock.

⏳ PATIENCE PAYS — AND SETS YOU UP RIGHT: Give it up to 30 minutes for every neckband to check in (varies based on your location and cell coverage). This is the habit that separates the smoothest operations from the rest - build that buffer into your day (start the move before your tea break, not on your way out the gate) and you'll never be standing around waiting on a fence.

HOW EASY! That's a fully digital farm. No wire, no strainer posts, no drama - just tap, draw, and go!!!!
