Hibernating Neckbands over Winter
❄️ If you are removing your Neckbands from your animals over winter, then please read on for our recommendations on how to store them so that they are ready to spring back into action, in Spring! 😊
🪫Ideally, you want your neckband batteries to have a good amount of charge before hibernating them. The reason for this is because even in the hibernation state, the neckbands do use a very small amount amount of battery power, so over the course of a few months, they will loose some of their charge.
Prerequisite
You have taken all of your neckbands off your animals and you have confirmed that all of your virtual fences have been deactivated.
Step 1
💤Hibernate all of your neckbands using the magnet key. (See instructions here).
Step 2
🌤️ Leave your neckbands outside with one solar panel facing the sun - whatever little sunshine there might be at this time of the year! A rough guide is to wait until you have had 3 sunny days to get some charge into the batteries. With the neckbands in hibernation, any solar power will go straight into the battery.
Step 3
📦 Pack your neckbands away in your preferred storage location. This can be indoors in your barn, but you can leave them outdoors if that works for you. Leaving them outdoors means that they may continue to get some solar charge from time to time, and this will ensure they are ready to go the following season.
⏰Coming out of Hibernation in Spring
As things start to warm up, get your Neckbands out of the barn 2 weeks before you plan on fitting them to animals. For the first week, just leave them outside in the sunshine, and in the second week, use the magnet key to bring all of them out of hibernation.
Check the eShepherd Web App to make sure they have all re-connected to the network and are communicating regularly before fitment.
